Reef Geeks was founded in August of 2017 by Audubon Aquarium of the Americas’ former coral aquarist and life support technician, Gavin Moecklin. Reef Geeks was created to provide beautiful, professional saltwater aquarium installation and maintenance to businesses and homes alike. We also provide a comprehensive retail store for livestock and maintenance equipment.
Saltwater aquariums are some of the most beautiful and captivating components of a home or business. Unfortunately they can also be some of the most challenging and difficult systems to manage without the proper training. That’s why we’re here. We think everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty, elegance, and luxury of saltwater aquariums—even if you don’t have time to master their care. Let us share our passion for saltwater aquariums with you. Leave the calculations and measurements to us.
One of the toughest things about saltwater aquariums can be getting them off the ground—literally and figuratively. We have the knowledge to fully install and plumb your system with the best equipment available to set you up for success. Whether it’s designing and installing the project from the ground up or tightening the last bulkhead—Reef Geeks is here to help you whenever and wherever you need us.

Proper husbandry for saltwater aquariums requires an aquarist that is part engineer, chemist, and biologist. That’s why we only employ the best aquarists to manage and maintain your masterpiece. Whether it’s a one-time tune up or a weekly visit, let us geek out your tank for you. After all, it’s what we do.

Meet the owner
Gavin humbly began his reef-keeping in 2004. After graduating from Holy Cross high school, he went on to earn degrees in marine science, biology, and chemistry from the University of Miami. He was hired in 2014 as a public aquarist for the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. There he honed his professional aquarist skills completing many exhibit renovations, including a fan favorite—the anemone and clownfish exhibit, and helped maintain over 1,000,000 gallons of exhibitry.
His extensive work in plumbing and large-system maintenance gives him the knowledge to install and maintain the aquarium of your dreams.
